One of the greats passed away last Wednesday, rest in peace Peter Steele. Although I haven't been listening to Type O Negative that much lately, October Rust is an album I have many fond memories of. Even though it's dark and gothic, it always makes me feel happy in a bitter sweet way.

We've been slowly adding new features to the website, latest being the artist page which is at last in existence. We'll be adding more artists profiles there as we get them done.

When prowling the internet for art films, I came across Jean Genet's only directorial feature Un Chant d'Amour - a 26 minute short film. Although it is filmed in 1950, it has some quite explicit scenes which still might make some people feel awkward. It was originally released as a "porn film" for the people who could afford it. Despite Genet's objections, Un Chant d'Amour became available for the broader public in the 70's.

The film reminds me a bit of Kenneth Anger's Fireworks, though being less surreal and with professional cinematography (by Jean Cocteau himself). The new version of the film (released by BFI) comes with an ambient jazz soundtrack, which fits perfectly with the imaginary. I was really surprised by the overall quality and feel of the film - it does not feel like it's been made in the early 50's. Cutting and pacing of the film is modern, and with the new soundtrack it almost feels like a music video at times.

A Fresh face

As you might have noticed, we have a new look! I hope this will fix some of the problems people had with the old version. Our new page is designed to work on latest browsers so if you're still sticking to the old and standard grumpy IE7 (or even IE6), make a switch to IE8, Chrome or Firefox.

Artist page is not yet implemented, so nothing to see there! Shoutbox has been transformed into individual comments on news and release items, as it seemed like a better solution. The MP3 player had to be completely rewritten and thanks to the new design you can listen to it while browsing. It's not yet possible to preview individual releases via the player, but it will be implemented sooner or later.

So, hope you all enjoy the new fresh look! All sorts of feedback is welcome, just add a comment!

We've been silent for a while, but it does not necessarily mean that nothing is happening. Today we released a new album by Dusthead, who hails from the other side of the pond. We urge you to check it out, especially if experimental ambient is your thing.

Although we've had this look for the site for less than a year, it's going to be changed. A new nifty version of this website has been in works for some time, and it will probably be in use on next week or earlier! So keep your eyes peeled. We will try to add more stuff in the future and probably make the news section more blog-like than before.

It has been a while since I wrote anything, so here goes.

I am happy to tell you that Carl Phaser's remix of Hotter will be on Parralox's new digital single. For more info go to www.parralox.de (only in german at the moment, so have your galactic translator box handy).

My hard drive suffered a massive failure a week ago (3rd of August), and as a result I lost pretty much everything I had, all Carl Phaser and 3 new Moosefrog tracks (which I am still going to rebuild from scratch) and numerous photos and memories. Well at least it inspired me to take frequent backups from now on, and I recommend that you do that as well!

Oh and *gulp* there went my bad words about MySpace, Carl Phaser is back! I created a new account yesterday and after a few hours of online life it was apparently removed for whatever reason. I wrote them a few e-mails inquiring what was going on, and now it is working as it should.

It has been 40 years since Apollo 11 landed on the moon. The very thought of people on the moon is almost absurd, but still, it really happened. All made possible by computers equivalent to a modern day wristwatch and loads - barrels of luck. I will tip my hat to those brave men who actually went up to the skies knowing that it might be the last thing they ever did.

One of the biggest stars of pop has passed away. My first reaction was disbelief, then sadness for his family and children. Michael Jackson has always been a great inspiration to me from the very day I first heard Thriller. His music will live on, his towering figure will stand and show the measure of a true star, which is hard to match or surpass.

As a big fan of Parralox I could not resist participating to their remix competition, in which you could remix any track off their still-to-be released second album. So, after a few weeks of playing around with the track and experimenting, I finally found my angle and got it done in a few days. The track is now available for preview on our MP3 player, at the top of the screen. Hope you enjoy it!

The website has been improved, as you might have already noticed. I think it's a great improvement to the older version, and it should be more stable and faster. I am still going to add a thing or two. And, if you notice something wrong or anything out of place, use the new shoutbox. Cheers!

As you might have noticed from my really sparse update frequency, I have been really busy lately as I have been putting much of my energy on finishing the first Carl Phaser release and working on an updated version of this website. But now it's all getting easier, so I should be here typing and adding entries more frequently.

There are lots of new things coming this way. Some of them quite surprising in nature. So be sure to keep your eye on the website (or the RSS feed).

If you want to listen to some of the new tracks by Carl Phaser, you can not. Because for an unknown reason the whole account has been deleted. When I was writing this entry, I decided to give Myspace a chance and endure its horrendous coding and design. Now I am glad that I don't have to anymore, because in the end it was not me.

After pondering alternatives for myspace, I just decided to make my own artist page. I will let you know when it is available.

A Good Excuse

There haven't been too many updates on the site for one simple reason: I just recently relocated myself to London. I've spent last few days settling in and getting used to all sorts of peculiar British things.

This is the second time, when I have time to actually get online and do something. Our Internet connection is supposed to be connected on next week (I hope). After that I'll be updating more regularily.

New Moosefrog release has been in the making for almost two years now and finally it seems that it's actually going to happen. I find London extremely inspiring, especially it's architecture and moss covered decadence. So, expect something dark and moody - with vinegar on top.

Now I am off to enjoy my English breakfast - yum!

So, on the 11th of January 2009 Lo-Kiwi netlabel died.

Thanks to my little fuck up we lost most of our releases. Sure, they're recoverable, but still it would be such an ordeal to move all zip files from one place to another, modify the database etc. After pondering the choices we had, we picked the less painful: coup de grace.

During the next weeks we'll be re-releasing chosen items from the Lo-Kiwi catalog probably from Lofihile, Moosefrog and Owltree. If you have any suggestions on what to pick up from the carrion, let us know!

Catnap Netlabel specialises at the moment on downtempo, electro, house and nu-jazz. Genres are not set in stone though. If it is good, it is Catnap material.

Catnap is a netlabel, which means that you can download all our releases for free! Exceptions might follow, but at the moment there are no plans to act otherwise. Usually, our releases are available for download as zip compressed archives, print quality sleeves included (when possible).

The need for Catnap netlabel rose in the summer of 2008, when Lo-Kiwi.org began to show signs of terminal neglect. We started to toy around with an idea of founding our very own netlabel, based on our own philosophy and needs. Music is fun. So, let us have fun!

First I'd like to thank you for checking us out. You might be already familiar with Lo-Kiwi.org netlabel and the artists. In a sense, we're here to carry on the torch.

We'll start by releasing music from Moosefrog, Lofihile, Owltree and Dick Flacid, other projects and combinations might follow. But still, the main reason for Catnap Netlabel to exist is to have an inspiring outlet for our work.

We hope you'll like what we've got to offer!
